Consent to publish research data
Section 5 of 10
Whether planning to share data through Bristol’s Research Data Repository or any other repository, it is essential to obtain permission to do so, whether from research participants, a commercial partner, or the owner of a third party dataset.
Any sharing of sensitive research data should always be approved through an appropriate ethics procedure at the start of a project. This will ensure all potential issues have been carefully considered. At the University of Bristol, researchers may be asked to consider research data publication implications as part of an ethics application, by individual faculty ethics committees, or by NHS ethics committees if dealing with patient data.
Contracts with commercial partners should also be checked prior to any data publication. If you are unsure whether you have permission to share data produced alongside a commercial partner the DREI Contracts team can help.
